112-1 English-Medium Instruction Teaching Assistant Training Program

Hello ,

 

Your English proficiency has reached the CEFR B1 level, but do you want to enhance your English communication skills further? Apart from taking English courses to challenge yourself, would you also like to qualify as a teaching assistant for all-English instruction courses?

 

If you are determined to complete all the training courses, you are exactly the EMI TA (English-Medium Instruction Teaching Assistant) candidate that the Language Center is looking to train.

I. Registration Steps

Step 1 : Fill out the training registration form. Registration link: https://forms.gle/WwhdE1oeq1yVmPS8A

Step 2 : Reserve your EMI TA Chatroom slot.

Step 3 : Register for the workshops. All students who have signed up for EMI TA training must attend the first workshop.

Step 4 : If you have not completed the Teaching Assistant training at the Center for Teaching and Learning Development, please sign up immediately and complete it within the specified time.

II. Training Content

  • EMI TA Chatroom (English Chatroom): EMI TA will be the target of instruction, and it will be personally guided by the foreign teacher Mr. Rob Harding. (1 hour per week)
    Objectives:

    • Improve English speaking and communication skills.

    • Learn English classroom language.

    • Learn how to lead group discussion activities in English for EMI classes.

    • Critical thinking skills.

  • EMI TA Training Moodle Online Course and Workshops
    Objectives: Understand the purpose, goals, challenges, and dilemmas of all-English instruction, so that trained EMI TAs have a clearer understanding of their roles and tasks in EMI courses.

 

III. EMI TA Chatroom:

This course will begin on September 18, 2023, at 5:10 PM in this semester. Please make a reservation on the Language Center website one week before the start of the class.

Reservation time: Monday to Thursday of the week before the class.

IV. EMI TA Training Moodle Online Course and Workshops:

  • 112-1 Semester EMI TA Training Moodle Online Course (Center for Teaching and Learning Development Moodle System):
    Observation period: From now until November 30, 2023. After observing the course, you must complete the feedback form to earn training hours.

    Topic: EMI TA Training Introduction, Q&A, and EMI TA Practical Experience Sharing

  • Speakers: Two former EMI TAs Participants: Students who have registered for EMI TA training

  • Location: Library 2nd-floor computer classroom (Library 222)

  • Time: September 27, 2023, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM

  • Registration deadline: From now until September 23, 2023, at 12:00 PM

  • Note: Students who complete both the 112-1 EMI TA training program registration and the first EMI TA training workshop by September 23, 2023, at 12:00 PM will be provided with lunch on the day of the first workshop.

V. Eligibility and Graduation Requirements

  1. Eligibility: Participants must have a minimum English proficiency level of B1 and provide proof of language proficiency (electronic copy is acceptable) at the time of registration.

  2. Graduation Requirements:
    A) If you are hired as an EMI course assistant in the current semester, you must complete the training program in the same semester you registered for and achieve the EMI TA graduation electronic certificate.
    B) Other participants who are undergoing training must meet the graduation requirements within 1 year from the date of registration (two consecutive semesters) and will be awarded the EMI TA graduation electronic certificate in both Chinese and English upon completion.
    C) Graduation Requirements:
    i) Provide proof of English proficiency at least at the B1 level.
    ii) Complete the Teaching Assistant training course offered by our university's Center for Teaching and Learning Development. For details, please refer to the Center's website: Link.
    iii) Attend the 5-hour EMI TA training workshops and English training sessions (EMI TA Chatroom) scheduled by the Language Center for the current semester.
