2025 International Students Chinese Recitation and Speech Contest
Contest Rules
- Purpose:
To encourage international students to continue actively learning Chinese, improve their language proficiency, and enhance their social adaptability, academic performance, and competitiveness in the job market, the Chinese Language Teaching Division at the Language Teaching Center will organize a Chinese recitation and speech contest for international students. This contest aims to motivate students to practice Chinese with the guidance of instructors, thereby boosting their motivation to improve their Chinese skills and promoting a learning atmosphere for Chinese at the university. - Organizing Unit: Chinese Language Teaching Division, Language Teaching Center, National Chi Nan University
- Eligibility: International students at the university whose native language is not Chinese.
- Contest Time: April 30, 2025 (Wednesday) from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
- Contest Location: Lobby, 1st floor, Library, National Chi Nan University
- Contest Categories:
o Recitation Category:
A2 Level (inclusive) and below: Select a recitation material from the ones provided by the organizers and participate in the recitation contest (time limit: 3 minutes).
o Speech Category:
B1 Level (inclusive) and above: The topic is self-selected (time limit: 4 minutes).

o The recitation contest will be held first, followed by the speech contest.
o Participants in the speech contest are not allowed to bring any scripts or notes on stage.
o Participants must check in at the designated room (220-8 on the 2nd floor of the library) by 1:00 PM on the day of the contest. If they are absent by 1:10 PM after two roll calls, they will be disqualified.
o Timing starts when the bell rings:
(1) Recitation: The time limit is 3 minutes. A bell will ring once at 2 minutes
and 30 seconds to give a reminder, and two bells will ring at 3 minutes to
signal the end. Participants must finish recitation and leave the stage. If
the recitation duration is shorter than 2 minutes 30 seconds or longer than
3 minutes 30 seconds, 1 point will be deducted from the total score for
each 30 seconds (rounding to 30 seconds if less than 30 seconds).
(2) Speech: The time limit is 4 minutes. A bell will ring once at 3 minutes
and 30 seconds to give a reminder, and two bells will ring at 4 minutes to
signal the end. Participants must finish speaking and leave the stage. If
the speech duration is shorter than 3 minutes 30 seconds or longer than 4
minutes 30 seconds, 1 point will be deducted from the total score for
each 30 seconds (rounding to 30 seconds if less than 30 seconds).
- Scoring Criteria:
o Recitation Contest:
Pronunciation and Intonation 40%, Fluency 30%, Body Language 10%, Stage Presence, Clothing, and Overall Performance 20%.
o Speech Contest:
Pronunciation and Intonation 25%, Fluency 25%, Content Organization 30%, Body Language 10%, Stage Presence, Clothing, and Overall Performance 10%.
o In case of a tie in the score, the ranking will be determined based on "Pronunciation and Intonation, Fluency, Body Language, Stage Presence, and Overall Performance." If the scores are still tied, the judges will decide the ranking through discussion.
